We
will be making the boy above from scratch, no selections
I am not too happy with his eyes, but you will get
the general
idea of how I do faces. This will be a long tutorial,
you should
have a good working knowledge of PSP and the tools
needed.
This was made using Paint Shop Pro 7.
Remember to save your work often!
I
always work on a larger canvas size,
start by opening a new image 400 x 550
on a transparent background.
We will start by making all the basic shapes
using the preset shapes tool and vectors.
then go back and do all the shading.
Use the preset shapes tool, with these settings

Set your fill color to a good skin color, I used #E2B7AE,
and shape the head using node edit.

When you are done, go to the layers pallet and
right click on this layer and choose, convert to raster
layer
then right click again and rename this layer head.
Now change your fill to the pattern you are using
for
his jammies. Use the preset shapes again with the
same settings to shape part of his hat like so...

Convert to a raster layer and rename this layer hat1
I also adjusted the brightness of this layer to 20.
Make the head layer your active layer and using
preset shapes, same settings and pattern
and shape out the top of his hat using node edit.
Convert to a raster layer and rename this layer hat2
Make Layer 1 your active layer, it should be at the
very bottom
and it should be empty. Using preset shapes again,
same settings
and pattern use node edit to shape some jammies

Convert to a raster layer and rename it jammies
I adjusted the brightness on this to 20 too.
Still on the jammies layer, use the preset shapes
again
same settings and pattern to make one sleeve using
node edit.

Convert this to a raster layer and rename it sleeve
1
Making your jammies layer active again, use this same
method
to shape his other sleeve too.

Convert this to a raster layer and rename it sleeve
2
Change your fill color back to the same skin color
used before
Make your jammies layer the active layer, and using
shapes
again with the same settings, make two hands using
node edit

Convert this to a raster layer and rename it hands
Changing you fill back to the same pattern as before
make your jammies layer active again, preset shapes
same settings, make one leg using node edit

and then shape another leg the same way

Convert this to a raster layer and rename it legs.
With the legs layer your active layer, use the preset
shapes again, same settings and pattern to shape
one foot using node edit.

Convert this to a raster layer and rename it foot1
I adjusted the brightness of this layer to 20
With foot1 still the active layer, shape another foot

Convert this to a raster layer and rename it foot2
Ok click on the next button to start making the face....
