This tutorial was written using Paint Shop Pro 7.

We will be making this girl from scratch using freehand draw.

This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and the tools needed.

Remember to save your image often.

Feel free to use these tiles if you want.

I used a curly hair tube for this girl, feel free to save the one I made if you like.

Curly Hair Tube

I used a pretty big canvas size for her, open a new image 300 x 650 on a transparent background

I started with her dress using freehand draw and the pattern above for my fill, using vectors I made part of her dress.

When you are happy with the way it looks, right click on this layer in your layers pallet and choose convert to a raster layer.

I changed my fill pattern and used freehand draw again to make more of her dress.

Convert that to a raster layer and then using the same pattern as before, I made her sleeves using freehand draw.

Convert this to a raster layer.

I went back to the middle dress layer and used the retouch tool at Darken RGB with these settings

Shape=Round Size=5 Hardness=0 Opacity=40 Step=1 Density=50 Darken RGB

To add some details to her dress

And then on the other two layers I used retouch with the same settings to add more details.

Changing the Lighten and Darken RGB settings, I went back over all three layers and added more shading, and some highlights.

Shape=Round Size=25 Hardness=0 Opacity=15 Step=1 Density=50 Lighten Darken RGB

When you are happy with all that shading, change the fill pattern to your choice for her legs. I used freehand draw again to make the legs, preset shapes works good too. The legs should be under all the dress layers.

Convert this to a raster layer and use Darken & Lighten RGB to add some shade to her legs.

Changing my fill color to #9B8367 I used freehand draw to make some shoes above the legs.

Convert this to a raster layer and use the retouch tool to add some shade on her boots.

I added a new raster layer above her boots and using the draw tool again with vectors unchecked, single line, and my stroke color as black and a fill of null I made some shoe laces. And then used the paintbrush at a size of 6, shape = round, Opacity = 100, Hardness = 0, Density = 100 and used black again to make little holes for the laces.
