This was made using Paint Shop Pro 8 but I think it will work OK in version 7 too

You will need to download the Fishbowl-Kitty.psp and save it to a folder of your choice.

This has the selections saved to alpha-channel. You will have to do most of the shading yourself, you should have a good working knowledge of psp and the tools needed.

Here is the pattern I used for the water.

I am honored to be listed as the tutorial
of the month for August 2003 at
FlyByNight Graphics

Thank You! :o)

Open up the Fishbowl-Kitty.psp image and go to "Window" "Duplicate" to make another copy, close the original.

Open the water.jpg and minimize it for later...

Make sure the very bottom layer 01 ARM is active.

"Selections" "Load from alpha channel" load the 01-arms selection and fill with black. deselect.

Use a cutout with these settings.

Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 80
Blur = 15
Shadow Color = White
Fill interior with color = Black

Make the 02 BODY layer your active layer.

Load the 02-body selection and fill with black, deselect.

Apply the same cutout as above, changing the blur to 22 and leaving the other settings the same.

Add a new raster layer right above the 02 BODY

Use the selection tool set for ellipse, anti-alias checked, no feather, and make a selection like the one shown below.

Now use the airbrush with the settings shown below and a foreground color of white, click along the top of the ellipse to shade the leg.

Shape = Round
Size = 55
Hardness = 0
Step = 1
Density = 100
Thickness = 100 (psp-8 only)
Rotation = 0 (psp-8 only)
Opacity = 25
Blend Mode = Normal (psp-8 only)
Rate = 5 (psp-8 only)

Still on the same raster layer, use the selection tool to make another ellipse like the one shown below and use the airbrush with the same color and settings to shade some more.

SAme layer, another ellipse selection and more shading here...

Same layer, one more selection, Airbrush more shade here.

Now you can load the 02-body selection again and go to "selections" "invert" and then "edit" "clear" to clean up anything going outside the body and deselect.

And you should have something that looks kinda like a strange turkey.. :o)

Make the 03 BODY FEET layer active

Load the 03-body-feet selection and fill with white, deselect.

Use a cutout with these settings....

Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 80
Blur = 25
Shadow color = Black
Fill interior with color = White

I already smudged the body here, you will have to smudge the feet, so choose the smudge tool with these settings...

Shape = Round (Default)
Size = 15
Hardness = 0
Step = 1
Density = 35
Thickness = 100 (psp-8 only)
Rotation = 0 (psp-8 only)
Opacity = 100

And just pull out the edges of the feet a little bit...

Make the 04 FEET your active layer

Load the 04-feet selection and fill with pink #CB8787 and deselect.

Apply a cutout with these settings.

Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 100
Blur = 10
Shadow Color = #2E1616
Fill interior with color = #CB8787

Still on this layer, use the Lighten RGB tool with the settings below to add some highlights here.

Shape = round
Size = 10
Hardness = 0
Step = 1
Density = 100
Opacity = 100

And then use a gaussian blur of 1 on this layer.

Make the 05 SAND layer active.

Load the 05-sand selection and fill with brown #795B47 and deselect.

If you are using psp version 8, go to "Adjust" "Add/Remove Noise" "Add Noise" choosing 25% Gaussian noise, Monochrome is checked, and click ok.

If you are using psp version 7, go to "effects" "noise" "add" and choose 25% uniform noise and click OK. Then go to "Colors" "Colorize" and choose Hue = 17 Saturation = 66 and click OK.

Make the 06 PLANTS your active layer.

Load the 06-plants selection and fill with green #5C7C5C and deselect.

Use a cutout with these settings...

Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 100
Blur = 8
Shadow Color = #121812
Fill interior with color = #5C7C5C

Make the 07 ROCKS layer active

Load the 07-rocks selection and fill with a grayish #A99F9F and deselect.

Apply an inner bevel with the settings shown below.

Make the 08 WATER layer active. Turn the opacity of this layer down to 40.

Load the 08-water selection and fill with the water pattern and deselect.

Now use the selection tool to make an ellipse at the top of this water (see below) and adjust the brightness (Shift + B) to -75 and deselect.
