Supplies Needed:
Optional:
- BladePro or SuperBlade Pro Presets for the leading.
If you have SuperBlade Pro you can use my bronze preset Download it HERE and download my seven original patterns, one of which is required for the preset. I don't recall which pattern(s) is required for this particular preset, but if you want to use any of my other three pages of presets, you'd need to download the patterns anyhow. Go to my Pixel Art by Joyce site HERE to download more presets for SuperBlade Pro. Unzip files to your plugin folder under Flaming Pear/SuperBladePro/Environments and Textures.
If you have BladePro, you'll find hundreds of presets to choose from at CSGreen's Blading Basket. Carol has 31 sets, with 136 presets in each set. That's a total of 4,216 presets as of the time this tutorial was written.
SuperBlade Pro presets are NOT backward compatible with BladePro. However, all of BladePro presets will work with SuperBlade Pro.
Download This File, jksuncatcher.zip needed to make the sample suncatcher for this tutorial. Includes five stained glass tiles from Spectrum Glass and the floral image.More Resources for Stained Glass and Patterns

Preparing Your Image
Open the floralac.gif black and white line drawing. It's very large, so it's easy to work on. Duplicate it [Shift + D] and close the original. Select Colors/Increase Color Depth/16 million colors (24 bit).
On the layer palette, right-click to see the options, then select Promote to Layer. If you don't do this step, then when you press the delete key in the next step, your background will NOT be tranparent.

Make the Background Transparent
Using the Magic Wand
, Tolerance set to around 81, select all of the background areas. Be sure to get all the little spaces. Hold down the shift key to select multiple sections. Once you have them all selected, press your delete key. Voila! You now have a transparent background! Save your image in PSP format [File/Save As] in a folder where you can find it.
Remember to save your work often!

Creating Leading Lines
Next the canvas size needs to be increased to allow room around the black lines for expanding and for the leading. The canvas is 400 x 534. Select Image/Canvas Size. I increased mine to 425 x 600 and checked both boxes so the image is centered. My image immediately appeared smaller, so I chose View/Normal Viewing so I could work with the larger image.
With your Magic Wand
, Tolerance still set to 81, click on one of the black lines. Most of the time, all of them will be selected. If not, then hold down the shift key as you select all of them. If you cannot select the line, zoom in [zoom tool looks like a magnifying glass] once or twice so you can see the black lines and to allow you to make a more accurate placement of your Magic Wand. With the line selected, choose Selections/Modify/Expand/1. For a thicker leading, expand by 2 pixels.

Do NOT deselect yet.
