Calligraphy

The Portland Society for Calligraphy

January 6, 2020

The Portland Society for Calligraphy began by Lloyd Reynolds and several his students following a lengthy alliance using the Society for Italic Handwriting in England. I was first referred to as Western American Branch from the Society for Italic Handwriting, among the earliest calligraphy guilds within the U . s . States.

We provide a comprehensive workshop program targeted at all amounts of skill. Our teachers include worldwide famous calligraphers in addition to local talent. We sponsor a yearly weekend retreat throughout the month of Feb in the Menucha Retreat Center within the beautiful Columbia Gorge. The Guild also exhibits members’ artwork within an annual non-juried show.

Joining the society

Signing up for the local calligraphy guild is a terrific way to find buddies, mentors, and professional contacts. Our guild contains a few of the area’s noticably and accomplished scribes, in addition to a quantity of newcomers searching to dip their pen the very first time.

We encourage both you and your buddies in the future and check us out during our once a month conferences (September-June), and find out what all of the fuss is all about. When you turn up, make certain to inform someone it’s the first time visiting and we’ll make sure to cause you to feel at home.
