Franklin-Covey + Mix = ?

cuza 07 Apr 2010

My local stationer is providing a type of pens branded FranklinCovey, BUT produced by A T Mix. I got myself among the fountain pens for $19.99. It’s a cartridge only model while using standard worldwide cartridges. I inked my new FP having a cartridge of non-public Reserve Night time Blues and gave it a short test run. Nib appears to become leaning towards FINE although not marked having a size. A little toothy. The gold tone nib is marked “Iridium Point” only. See my snaps below:

The $19.99 USD cost is probably full retail so it’s likely that it may be bought at a lower price. It falls inside a cost range that provides couple of competitors. If only them luck.

Diameter: 10mm

Good weight and good wt. distribution when published.

I believe it’s smart for Mix to get this done. Their current fall into line appears very overpriced for what they’re. I believe Mix has some awesome designs and keeps picking out interesting pens. Nonetheless they cost them from a lot of peoples pockets.

There are plenty of current Mix pens I would like to buy although not in the prices they need.

Maybe Mix is realizing this and looking to get in to the cheaper markets by utilizing other names.

1) that’s the least Mix searching Mix pen I’ve yet seen, and they’ve been going quite far afield recently,

2) tieing the Mix name having a $20 pen isn’t good business if they’re trying to develop in to the luxury brand market nice. (What can you consider the Rolex brand when they began selling a $35 OEM from China watch?)

I have used the FranklinCovey for nearly 2 days now and am surprisingly impressed. A lot of it feed is excellent. The pen seamless comfort in hands.
And regardless of the polished metal section, I’ve complete control. I love to proven fact that it take “regular” cartridges and never the funky Mix ones.
Presently, this really is pen will replace my trusty Sheaffer Imperial © as my jean pocket pen.

Possibly someone will perform a review. I’d want to consider another person’s knowledge about this pen.

Well, here i am per month later. How’s the pen exercising?

The pen you show appears like the very same pen which i purchased at Big Lots this past year for $9.99. Additionally they offered an identical mechanical pencil individually for the similar cost. My pen authored perfectly, however it demonstrated smudges around the chrome. I no more possess the pen.

Enjoy your pen,
Jerry

This pen is comparable to the road of Mix pens marketed as penatia in the past. That effort was targeted at a lesser cost point market and also the Mix name was conspicuously overlooked.

The stopped Bill Blass Line was offered in the factory store for $10.00 for 2 teams of a pen and pencil.

It’s produced by Mix however it fits standard int’l cartridges, right? Therefore it will not fit Mix cartridges/converters.

Sorry for that dumb question, but Let me make sure.

Supposedly some Franklin Covey pens take Worldwide carts/converters (the Freemont and also the Lexington are pointed out in-particular), others take Mix proprietary. See here:

I have seen actual Mix branded fountain pens at Staples within the $20-25 cost range recently.

I’ve one of these simple Franklin Covey pens. I am not thrilled by using it. I am happy enough by using it- once i place a Noodler’s Charlie nib inside it! I would not purchase one again. For $20 I’m able to obtain a much better more reliable pen. And also have done this. Multiple occasions.

Really, the Franklin Covey pen experience has soured me to Mix brand pens entirely. Which can be unfair however they introduced that on themselves for me.

I purchased one of these simple F.P. in Staples within the uk about four to five years back.

Never too sure about chrome grip sections, however this one appears to be effective.

It did write ‘out from the box’ however it authored very dryly and ‘fine’, and so i made the decision the tine gap was too tight, and spent some time to several attempts with smoothing and ‘gapping’ to have it working well.

Now, it is a really reliable ‘fine’ nib, there’s an excellent into it that we like, for me personally it had been value for money.
